Google Launches Online Campaign for Apple to ‘Fix Texting’ and Adopt RCS Messaging
Google has launched an online campaign by asking Apple to “fix texting” by adopting the Rich Communication Services (RCS) protocol for messaging. Recently, Apple has been using the outdated SMS and MMS technology for communication with users outside the company's ecosystem. As per Google, this has led users to share low resolution videos. Google being the firm that develops the Android operating system had highlighted that the outdated SMS and MMS technology has led to broken group chats and missing read receipts. Well, without the use of RCS, Apple users cannot send messages to Android phones over mobile data or Wi-Fi.

The US tech giant, Google has launched an online campaign through the Android website by asking Apple to let go the outdated the SMS and MMS technology and adopt the RCS technology instead, for messaging purposes. Google had claimed that this would not hamper the experience for users communicating within the Apple ecosystem however, it would improve the messaging system between Android phones and iPhone models.
Therefore, Google had mentioned that this current technology utilized by Apple does not enable users to communicate with Wi-Fi. As per Google, his may cause problems when a user does not have good cell reception. Even Apple does not show if the person has been typing while texting with someone, it does not display the read recipients, displays broken group chats at the time of texting with Android users. Currently, the messages were not encrypted, and therefore the pictures and videos which were shared through messages were extremely compressed. Well, it has to be noted that these problems pertain to cross-platform communication, not Apple's iMessage, where all the above-named features were available. Google has shared some screenshots of users who were complaining regarding Apple's lack of initiative to adopt RCS. Texting has been still widely used in countries like the US, where the users on Android could have a degraded experience while texting the iPhone owners, who all had the access to iMessage.
Google has mentioned the color of message bubbles on Apple's Messages app. Therefore, Google has claimed that iPhone models make reading texts with Android smartphones tough as Apple used white text on a bright green background. However, Apple has been yet to respond Google's online campaign which was asking it to adopt RCS, or disclosed any plans to integrate the RCS protocol into its Messages app iOS and iPadOS.
